Chinese consulates in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico was under the Houston consulate until 2020 and now reports to Washington. There is no road: everything travels by air.
The five Chinese offices in the country share out the fifty states. This is where Puerto Rico lands.
Which Chinese consulate covers Puerto Rico?
Under the jurisdiction announcement of 29 June 2024, Puerto Rico is served by Chinese Embassy in Washington.
This is one of the nine territories that changed office when Houston closed in July 2020. Aggregators and old guides still send people there.

What you can settle without going to the consulate
- check the validity, entries and duration on a visa you already hold before assuming you need a new one
- book nothing: since October 2023 the five offices take walk-ins and there is no appointment to make
- send someone else to hand in your passport and to pick it up for you
The paperwork is done from home. The journey is for the document, not for the file.
