Appointments at a Chinese consulate

Appointments
There is no appointment system. Since 23 October 2023 every Chinese office in the United States takes walk-ins, and no site can book you a slot that does not exist.

If you searched for a Chinese consular appointment, the honest answer is that there is nothing to book. The Embassy and the four consulates general dropped appointments together, and the counter has worked by queue number ever since.

What to do instead of booking

  • Fill in the form on COVA and upload the documents.
  • Wait for the status to read Passport to be Submitted.
  • Print the barcode page.
  • Walk in with the barcode page and the passport.
  • Come back with the pick-up slip and a credit card.

What replaced the appointment is the online form. Your file is reviewed before you are told to come, so the counter already knows who you are by the time you arrive. That is why the visit is short when the file is approved and pointless when it is not.
